Our new apiary, the Co-operative apiary, has a fantastic cob built hut with a grass roof. This will allow us to met, lock out clothes away when we are at the hive and a place to teach in small groups.
We hope to put an observation hive in the hut, and have information about beekeeping and growing your own food.
The apiary has four colonies - all growing strong, and shortly we will have another colony in the beehaus.
The Honey Hut is made from Cob and has no electricity as yet. Maybe, if we can find someone to donate a 12V system with solar panels on the roof? We’ll see...

This CO-operative funded project is well under way with the first training entering the ‘Hands On’ stage on the 14th and 15th August
Co-operative Apiary
The new apiary in Wythenshawe Park is about to be populated with 5 hives at first, four of them conventional National hives and one Omlet Bee Haus. This is a newly designed plastic hive we are looking at with a view to using them in schools as well as community allotments.

The Bees in August
They should be out foraging at the moment bringing in lots of nectar and honey. Swarming should be over by now and the bees can be Varroa counted in preparation for treating after honey harvest.
Close the entrance
Colonies are having trouble with wasps. Help them out by closing down the hive entrance so that the guard bees get a fighting chance to see wasps off.
We get a base!
The Honey Hut
Very sorry if you couldn’t get through to us these last couple of weeks. There were a number of gremlins in the computer systems on account of the fact that the computer doesn’t like tea.
However, we are back on track and will answer all your queries soon.
Apologies!!!
